Origin of the name

The name of this shared pottery studio comes from "Clay Station," a pottery studio in Bangalore that I frequented when I was stationed in India (about 10 years ago).

I thought it was a good name even back then because it sounds very easy to remember, and "station" is a symbol of a place where people gather.

Sakuragicho, where I happened to find this property, is "Japan's first railway station."

Feeling a strange sense of destiny, I consulted with the founder of claystation.in in Bangalore about using the name. Surprisingly, he still remembered me from back then and readily agreed, saying, "It's an honor to have the name claystation used in Japan."

His reply contained the thoughts he had put into the word "station".

The idea of a “station” where creative people gather, learn, experiment, and begin their journeys is exactly the spirit with which we started Claystation in Bangalore many years ago.

This is exactly what I want to do in this shared pottery studio.

Profile

Representative: Kazunori Mizushima

Roots: Born in the region of Echizen ware, one of the six ancient kilns of Japan, I grew up in an environment where pottery was a familiar part of his life from a young age.
During my time as a company employee: I built a career in the IT industry. I was stationed in India from 2014 to 2018.
Rediscovery: While stationed in India, an encounter with the local pottery studio Clay Station in Bangalore led to a rediscovery of the charm of pottery, and I began to immerse myself in pottery making, visiting the studio almost every day after work. Even after returning to Japan in 2018, I continued to work as a company employee while dedicating himself to pottery making every weekend.
A Challenge in Paris: At the end of 2023, I left the company where I had worked for many years. In 2024, I moved to Paris, France, to explore my path as a ceramic artist. I explored my own expression through a "residence" (a system that allows me to use the studio freely 24 hours a day) at a local studio, and in January 2025, I made my solo exhibition debut as a ceramic artist in Paris.
Currently, I continue to create pottery energetically, traveling between three locations: Yokohama, Echizen, and Paris. Following my first solo exhibition in 2025, I hold his second solo exhibition in Paris in 2026. Based on my own experience, I establish a shared pottery studio in Yokohama.
